עמרם סטולר

כבר שלוש שנים, מדי יום ביומו, עומד עמרם סטולר מול גיליון נייר בגודל של מטר על שבעים בסטודיו שלו שבקיבוץ כנרת. עיניו עצומות, ראשו מושפל וידיו ממששות במיומנות את שולי הנייר, בוחנות את פני השטח של הדף הלבן שבתוך דקות יתמלא במראות של מרחבים אחרים, דימויים מופשטים ובו בזמן קונקרטיים מאוד. בתנועה מהירה הוא יוצר קו חופשי ברישום עיוור, ולאחר מכן מתרחק מן הדף ומביט לראשונה בשרבוט שנוצר. המפגש הראשון בעיניים פקוחות בקו או בכתם שהניח על המשטח הוא שקובע בהמשך את מערך התוכן של הרישום כולו. סדרת הרישומים מאופיינת בשטף מתפרץ של יצירה, מתוך תחושת דחיפות כמעט בלתי נשלטת, דחף אמתי, להגדרתו, "להוציא מתוכי תנועות יד ספונטניות ולהשאיר סימנים".

בתערוכה מוצג מקבץ עבודות הכולל ייצוג של תמות סגנוניות שונות. הרישומים מורכבים ממערכים קוויים אבסטרקטיים ברמות שונות של דחיסות – חלקם מינימליסטיים ואווריריים וחלקם אינטנסיביים מאוד, צפופים וכהים. רובם ככולם מזוהים בבירור כמקטעי נוף: רכסי הרים, מאגרי מים, שדות או מארגים נופיים אחרים, ואף על פי כן, הוא אינו מבקש לצייר נופים או גופים; אלה צפים ועולים מן הדימוי המופשט והמערכים הצורניים. הבחירה בפחם קשורה ליסוד האינטואיטיבי ולתחושת השחרור הקיימת בעבודות. זהו חומר המאפשר משיחות חופשיות ויצריות, אך הוא במידה רבה גם שולט באמן ומתמרן אותו. התוצאה מעוררת בהתאם תחושות מנוגדות; חלק מהרישומים רכים ונעימים לעין וחלקם מבטאים צרימה או מעלים אסוציאציות של הרס וחורבן.

Amram Stoller

For three years now, Amram Stoller has been standing in front of a 100X70 cm sheet of paper, in his studio in Kibbutz Kinneret. His eyes are closed, his head is down, and his hands expertly feel the edges of the paper, examining the surface of the white plane that soon will be filled with images of other places, abstract images that are also very concrete. With quick and intuitive motions he draws a free line, unseeing. And then he steps back and looks at the resulting scribblings for the first time. This first open-eyes encounter with the line or the stain he has laid on the surface determines later on the content of the whole drawing. The series of drawings characterized by an exploding creative spurt, a true sense of urgency, intense and almost uncontrollable, to, as he says, "extract spontaneous hand movements from myself and to leave marks."

The show presents works that include representation of various themes that have been recurrent in his work. The drawings are compiled from abstract lines in various degrees of density – some are minimalist and airy, while others are intense, dense, and dark. They are clearly identifiable as landscapes: mountain ranges, reservoirs, fields, or other weavings of views. And yet, he does not wish to draw landscapes or bodies; they emerge from the abstract configurations. The choice of charcoal is also related to the intuitive element and to the sense of freedom in the works. This substance allows free, instinctual movements on the page, while at the same time it controls the artist, manipulates him. The results, accordingly, evokes contradictory feelings: some of the drawings are soft and serene, while others are jarring, or they evoke associations of destruction and ruin.

The show and the catalog are collaboration with de DROM, an arts and culture center in Kröpelin, Germany. The show's first part was exhibited at the center during April– June, 2018.
